IE8 crashes when loading website – res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm

I was having a problem in opening my website using internet explorer 8. The page loads for a short time but then IE stops loading it. IE tries to recover the tab continuously but then says “Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears that the website continues to have a problem“.

It opens an error page with the following URL pattern:

res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#mywebsiteurl

Fix

To address this issue, follow these instructions to use Internet Explorer in No add-ons mode to identify any add-ons that are causing errors.

1.   Click Start

2.   Click All Programs

3.   Click Accessories

4.   Click System Tools

5.   Click Internet Explorer (No add-ons)

6.   Click Tools

7.   Click Manage Add-ons

8.   Click Toolbars and Extensions

9.   Under Show: click All add-ons

10.  Select all the add-ons in the right pane

11.  Click Disable all

12.  Click Close

13.  Close Internet Explorer (No add-ons)

14.  Open Internet Explorer

If the problem is fixed then the next step is to enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem. Test to see if the error have returned, if not the add-on you enabled is good to stay. Repeat the enabling process for the next disabled add-on and continue this process until the problem returns. Then the last add-on enabled will need to be disabled/uninstalled/updated to avoid further problems.

  1. When I click “Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons), an IE window tries to open with the same message that Internet Explorer has stopped working, so cannot follow any of the steps you have mentioned that come after. Any suggestions?

    • Try to start Internet Explorer in safe mode using Run Command. Type “iexplore -extoff” in run command without the quotes and hit Enter. If you are still experiencing the issue, try this troubleshooting article.
